America is at war. The news recently saw the release of the M.O.A.B. (Mother Of All Bombs). While other countries are fighting chemical threats, viral outbreaks, daily threats and posturing of nuclear war, America has been dying from within.
America has been battling a much more insidious, deadly, silent and evil disease. It’s a disease that has eroded the very moral foundation that has built our great country. In fact, the very pillars of virtue upon which this great nation was founded are the very things being attacked!
Honesty, faithfulness, humility, sensitivity, loyalty, kindness, mercy, truthfulness, honoring God and others – the very principles upon which our nation was founded, seem to be values that don’t mirror the lives of many Americans.
Sadly, these same values don’t seem very representative of “the church.” The statistics don’t lie. This reflects the majority of how Americans view the modern church.
Research shows that Americans have more confidence in banks than they do in the church. The signs are everywhere. The Bible speaks of this in 2 Timothy 3
But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.
The Bible informs us of what is good, right and true. It also warns us of what to avoid.
My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.”
Pastor Ron Edmonson shares some valuable thoughts in this post.
Joseph LaLonde encourages young leaders to think with this post.
God’s word is the only authority that we are to follow. Just like children follow the example that their parents set, so too do church members follow the examples they see from their leadership. While many people are disappointed on the lack of biblical leadership in our country, it’s no excuse for us to not press on. God’s word gives clear warning that difficult times would come.
…Be shepherds of God’s flock that is among you, watching over them not out of compulsion, but because it is God’s will; not out of greed, but out of eagerness; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.…” 1 Peter 5:2-4
Do church leaders have a responsibility? Yes. God will hold them to a much higher standard than any president or government official can because only the church can oversee your soul. However this doesn’t negate the fact that you need to do your own part. The Bible calls this “stewardship.”
However only you can grow in your personal, intimate relationship with God everyday. You see friend, God has given each and everyone of us the freedom to choose. You can choose to walk the pagan pathway that values money, power, and appearances. Or you can choose to walk hand in hand with Jesus.
My prayer is that America will return to the only one who has all authority and power. It’s not money, police, government or force, but it’s by bending her heart and will to the Almighty Soverign Creator, Holy God.
I pray you recapture the wonder of His glory, beauty and creation.
