Any woman who is married has a deep desire for her husband to know her. In the Bible, in the King James Version, when it talks about a “man knowing a woman” usually it was referring to a sexual relationship, and then typically, you’d find that a child would be born. There are many people today who associate the term “intimacy” with “sexual” or “physical relationship.”
However when you look at God’s Word, the meaning of intimacy is much deeper than a physical union of a man and woman.
Intimacy is deeply personal, confidential, and motivated by genuine love for each other.
It says nothing about touch. Now there’s nothing wrong with touch – but here’s what I want you to notice: intimacy transcends the human body. You can have an intimacy with God that no human relationship on the face of this earth can equal.
The very idea that some people think that intimacy is only related to sexual involvement or some kind of physical touch is misleading. That is just a result of genuine intimacy!
Intimacy is a close relationship that is deeply personal, deeply confidential, motivated by genuine love, each for the other. Any physical relationship that is involved in this is only the absolute beautiful overflow of what intimacy and love is all about!
Friends, God is absolutely perfect! Look at how beautiful His creation is! He is infinite in ALL His knowledge. That means that He knows you inside-out, past, present, future – better than your spouse, children, dogs, (better than your own Mother)! He is fully equipped to have an intimate relationship with you. His only hindrance is…you.
“Start with God – the first step in learning is bowing down to God. Only fools thumb their noses at such wisdom and learning.” King Solomon
God is not satisfied with just saving us. He wants us to know Him. He desires to have intimacy with us.
“My soul clings to You;
Your right hand upholds me. Psalm 63:8″
This is why He uses pain, suffering, heartache, trials, tribulations, and things we don’t understand to get our attention. What is He doing? He’s getting our attention to draw us closer to Him. He loves you so much that He wants you to draw nearer to Him, closer to Him, just like a mother lovingly draws her child near her breast.
He is using all of these things to draw us into an intimate relationship with Him so that we can see that He is a loving God, a caring God, a compassionate God whose heart is for us and whose heart is tender.
He wants to meet every single need of our life and many stubbornly want to do it our way. Friends, the most intimate relationship that you can ever have is with the one who created you.
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5
Friends, God is faithful. There is no one else who will be able to meet your most intimate hopes, dreams, desires and needs like your Heavenly Father.
I encourage you to spend time with Him. Get to know Him! Set aside your i-gadget and pick up your Bible. If you use your tablet or laptop to search your Bible, then here are a few online resources where you can connect with others who also desire to grow in their relationship with God and deepen their intimacy in Him:
May the love of God penetrate your heart and overflow in abundance from your life.
